Surprise! Going To Fanime Con 2008!

Fanime Con 2008.... My Third Attendance!

Fanime Con was something I used to attend, when I first moved to the Bay Area. However, I had stopped going, since I had been attending Anime Expo for quite a while before and have since been continously going for... 15 years. ^_^;

Fanime is quite a bat smaller than Anime Expo, so for those who are used to a much higher density and range of cosplayers, Fanime may be a bit of a disappointment. However, that doesn't mean that Fanime isn't worthwhile to attend! In fact, I found my visit to Fanime this year to be very invigorating!

For one thing, the lines are quite similar to those in Anime Expo. However, they are quite a bit slower! I attended on Saturday, May 24th. As it was, I was very fortunate for attending even one day! ^_^ Life is busy! I was reminded of this convention when a friend had emailed about his children attending... and wondering whether I was attending or not! ^_^;; I was reminded just in time to attend! Woot!

Btw, I was only able to attend thanks to the generosity of my loving wife, who took on the daunting task of entertaining our daughter for the day. I had expected to go for an afternoon, but was surprised when she said I should stay, so I can catch all of the late evening events... *_* I AM the luckiest guy! *sniff sniff*

The registration line was long. VERY long. I arrived around 10:30am at the line and fully expected I would be staying there for at least two hours!!

This just didn't seem all that great to me, but having no choice, I stayed, camera at the ready. Allowing me to capture a shot of "Ramen and Rice", the stringed duo, always trying to raise money to attend the next convention, playing the finest in Anime music... *sigh*

Their music broke the monotany until they were told to leave, as they could not perform there... -_-;; Rules are rules.. but still... *sigh*

I waited in line for a while longer, until I saw this:

Nothing like a nice shortcut to bypass the hours of line waiting! Did I mention the lines were long?

So... like others around me, who were similarly laptop enabled:

I signed on via the wireless network. While doing this, many other suffers of the line came by and asked me how I was able to access the registration network! Eventually, a pair came by offering me the signup slips, if I would let them register through my computer:

These two guys were of great help and I was glad that we could help each other! ^_^; We saved me from having to wait in line and were able to get our packets and head on into the convention!

Total time spent with registration... around an hour! Woot!

More posting later, from the convention itself with photographs of cosplayers!
